1. Vacuum

Carpets need to be vacuumed at least 1-2 times a week, more for high traffic homes or homes with children or pets.

But my carpet doesn’t look dirty? It’s what you can’t see that can really hurt your carpet. Small clay, sand, and quartz particles are constantly being tracked into your home. These small particles settle into your carpet fibers and rub like sand paper, damaging the carpet and causing it to wear out more quickly than it would have with regular vacuuming.

Regular vacuuming will also help remove pollutants and allergens from your home, creating a healthier environment for everyone.

  2. Immediate Spill and Spot Cleanup

The key to remember is blot, don’t rub. Rubbing damages carpet fibers and spreads the stain. Use a clean white towel or paper towel and continue blotting the stain with a clean section until the cloth is no longer being saturated by the stain. Next, use a mixture of warm water and a small amount of mild non-bleach laundry detergent and further blot the stain. Blot until the stain is no longer transferring to the cloth. Rinse by blotting with warm water to remove the detergent from your carpet.

  3. Professional Carpet Cleaning

Check your carpet warranty. Seriously. Most carpet companies have a clause in the warranty that states carpet most be professionally cleaned 1-2 times a year. Should a warranty issue arise, you will need to show documentation (receipts) for the required professional cleaning.

Why is professional carpet cleaning so important? Professional carpet cleaners can heat water considerably hotter than any home cleaning machine. The hot water extraction restores the proper texture to your carpet, it’s what makes the carpet look and feel new again. Professional carpet cleaners also have extraction equipment that are much higher powered than home machines. This high power extraction removes dirt, pollutants, and allergens your vacuum cannot, making your home a cleaner, healthier place.
