Removing Pet DanderYou love your pet, there’s no doubt about that!  Companion animals bring so much to a home; joy, love, and, inevitably dander.  The professionals at Freeman Carpet Cleaning would like to share some tips on how to remove dander from your home.  We invite you to read along and learn how clean up the dander in your home so you can get back to enjoying your animals.

Furniture

Furniture is a magnet for dander and hair.  Do yourself a favor here and make sure to invest in a vacuum with a good pet fur attachment and vacuum weekly.  Be sure to vacuum the entire couch or chair, paying special attention to under the cushions.

A lint removal brush is also an excellent tool.  Roll over furniture with the sticky brush weekly.  Make sure to change the paper before every use so that you do not inadvertently redistribute any hair and dander from a previous cleaning.

Brush your pet outside every week.  This will remove the hair and dander before it even enters your home.

Mop your floors regularly with a microfiber mop.  This will collect dander and hair from your floors so that it cannot attach to your furniture.

Use the Right Cleaners!

When vacuuming, it is important if you have pets in the home to use a vacuum with a HEPA filter.  This will collect the most dander and keep your house the safest.

Periodically, you want to wipe down the walls to remove particles that have attached.  Consider using a cleaner specifically formulated for pet dander to maximize the effectiveness of this cleaning effort.

Protect mattresses with an allergen barrier mattress pad.  There are also similar covers available that you can purchase to protect your pillows.

Launder clothing and bedding in detergent specially formulated to neutralize allergens.

Consider using a mask when cleaning.  When you clean for dust and danger, a lot of the microscopic particles can become airborne and a mask will help prevent the particles from entering your lungs.
